We would like to share our experience over the past year trying to find our forever home. We lived in a condo in Mississauga but wanted to relocate closer to our daughter and our two baby granddaughters. Our search started on the Internet as we really did not have a location picked out... Only that we wanted to be closer to our daughter but not too far from our older daughter and her family especially our Grandson. We looked all along the 401 corridor Whitby, Oshawa, Bowmanville and Newcastle. There was absolutely never any pressure, just great information. After almost a year Wilco was still assisting us as we finally came to the decision that our new home would be in Peterborough. The sale of one's home is never easy but the process of selling the farm, where we'd lived for more than thirty years, was a daunting proposition. We knew it was a special home that would appeal to a small sub-set of buyers - even among those looking for rural properties. We were fortunate to learn of Wilco Overink through his involvement with the New Canadians Centre and we were very pleased with all he did on our behalf. Wilco took time to get to know us and to experience and understand the property. He undertook careful research in order to help us to set our asking price. He was direct and realistic in advising us that, to achieve the price we hoped to realize, we would need to be patient. And, while several other agents dismissed us out of hand, indicating that our expectations were unrealistic, Wilco agreed to work with assurances that he would not pressure us in order to try to effect a quick sale. Wilco marketed the property based on the likelihood that our buyer would be from Toronto (or perhaps even outside of Canada). Great articles in Vertrek (a Dutch emigration magazine) and the on-line edition of Country Living magazine were among the innovative things he tried to get exposure for the farm.
